Commissioned on 22nd December 1979 Col A K Sharma had an eventful and successful career in the army. After almost 28 years of service he sought voluntary release to pursue a second career in August 2007. He is married to Rekha, a professional aerobics instructor, and is blessed with two children; daughter Rhea is studying psychology at Fergusson, Pune and son Milind goes to school. |

Service Background: Col A K Sharma joined NDA in 1976 and was commissioned into the elite Armoured Corps (Cavalry). During his service he has been posted to various sectors in important appointments, some of them being, ADC to GOC, BM of a Mountain Brigade (J&K), GSO1 at Army HQ and Battalion Commander at IMA, Dehradun. |

He commanded 74 Armoured Regiment during OP-PARAKARAM. He has attended a large number of courses and acquitted himself with distinction. Prominent among these courses are Electronics Engineering, Defence Services Staff Course and Senior Command Course. In his last appointment he was the Dean of ‘Faculty of Technical Studies’ and Chief Instructor at Armoured Corps Centre and School Ahmednagar.

Post retirement Endeavors: Soon after hanging his spurs, Col Sharma took charge of the bimonthly magazine ‘South Asia Defence & Strategic Review’ as its Editor and now the magazine is his completely his own venture. In a short span of time he has edited many books for a reputed publishing house ‘Pentagon Press’ on a range subjects, particularly on military matters. The year book on South Asia of which he is the Consulting Editor was released last month by the Defence Minister. He is also making a foray into Adventure tourism and is in the process of setting up an adventure camp in Himachal Pradesh. |

Awards and Recognition: Best student trophy in ‘Combat Team Commanders’ and ‘Radio and Telecom’ Courses. Bronze medal for Best project during the Electronics Degree Engineering course. |

| Hobbies and Interest: Fond of adventure sports including skiing, white water rafting and microlite flying. Keen on outdoor sports. Hobbies include listening to music and reading. |
