‘India to support efforts to crush terrorism’
 

Army Chief Sarath Fonseka who returned after an official visit to India said Indian defence officials pledged maximum support for the Government’s plan to eliminate terrorism and bring peace to Sri Lanka.

The Media Center for National Security said the visit was aimed at enhancing better understanding between the two armies in terms of defence and training and confirmed that other programmes were in the pipeline.

During his visit he met Defence Minister A.K. Antony, Defence Secretary Vijay Singh, Indian Army Chief Deepak Kapoor, Indian Navy chief Sureesh Mehta and Indian Air Force Chief Fali Homi Major. The Army Chief also visited Jammu and Kashmir for an operational briefing on the situation at the Line of Control that divides India and Pakistan.
