With "little prospects" of advanced countries transferring critical technologies to India, a drastic organisational revamp of the Defence Research and Development Organisation is in the offing to make it capable of developing such expertise.
Such an organisational restructuring , Defence Minister A K Antony said, was a must to ensure that DRDO attained the capability of developing critical technologies as he saw"little prospects" of advanced nations sharing such expertise with India.
The minister's remarks came while inaugrating the 32nd DRDO Directors' conference here and assume significance as a high-powered committee headed by eminent scientist P Rama Rao has submitted a report on the revamp of the DRDO.
The committe report is now being vetted by a high-level team of officials in the Defence Ministry and may be presented to the Cabinet Committee on Security before its implmentation.
"We are in the process of introducing several innovations to streamline and make more effective the entire defence product development and procurment process", the Defence Minister said.
The changes, he said, would involve modifications in the procurment procedures, organisational improvements in the DRDO and development of a healthy interface with the public and private industry through.
