How defence pay works
Pay is set by the 7th CPC pay matrix. Officers from Lieutenant to Brigadier draw Military Service Pay of ₹15,500; JCOs and other ranks draw ₹5,200. Dearness allowance is revised twice a year. Agniveers are on a separate package with a 30 percent Seva Nidhi deduction matched by the government. Flying, submarine, Siachen and special-forces allowances add ₹10,000 to ₹42,500 per month depending on role.
